Conflicting stories about capitalism, in America and China

The United States has long been among the leading proponents of free market capitalism. Yet America is also quite divided, politically, between those who see capitalism as a long story of exploitation and those who see it as a long story of liberation. In this talk I’ll explain why capitalism is so morally divisive in America and other western societies, drawing on my research in social psychology. I will then ask questions about how Chinese society is reacting to its very rapid increase in wealth, with all the social and moral changes that wealth usually brings. 

演讲者简介：

乔纳森·海特（Jonathan Haidt）是著名心理学家。2012年被《外交政策》杂志评选为“全球百大思想家”之一，2013年被《展望》杂志评选为“世界顶级思想家”，坦普尔顿积极心理学奖获得者，积极心理学先锋派领袖，TED大会演讲人，其演讲点击量超过300万次。

海特1992年于宾夕法尼亚大学获得心理学博士学位，在弗吉尼亚大学任教16年，获得弗吉尼亚杰出教授奖。2011年加入纽约大学，任斯特恩商学院教授，主攻道德心理学、积极心理学、政治心理学、文化心理学、商业伦理以及复杂社会系统。在国际知名学术期刊上发表了百余多篇文章，其著作《象与骑象人》（The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom）和《正义之心》（The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion）一经出版就登上亚马逊心理学理论类和纽约时报的排行榜，中译本亦持续热销。海特的研究不仅学术影响深远，亦产生了广泛的社会影响，他的研究引起了美国民主党人和共产党人的广泛关注，《金融时报》、《人物》、《纽约时报》、《华尔街日报》、《科学》等知名媒体对他及他的研究进行了大篇幅报道。
